There's something terrifically scary, in a primal kind of way, about being buried alive. This fear's been played on in a bunch of horror movies, and in the psychological thriller Oxygen, it's used again. A woman is kidnapped outside her downtown Manhattan home by Adrien Brody, who buries her and then insists on a multi-million-dollar ransom if her husband wants to find her before the oxygen runs out.
Enter cop Maura Tierney, who's struggling to get over a heroin addiction (no, I'm not kidding). The talents of Brody and Tierney are really put to the test here, as the screenplay binds them to some rather obvious ripoffs (one in particular). They soon look way too much like they're playing the same psychological cat-and-mouse games Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster played in Silence of the Lambs. Thus Oxygen suffocates due to its lack of originality.
I was utterly thrilled to see Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers, promoted as an all-new feature-length video adventure. Don't believe it! Instead, Warner Bros. has simply repackaged some old 1983 TV special. And this one features perhaps the most insipid animated sidekick ever, Scrappy-Doo--while dumping the rest of Scooby's regular entourage, Velma, Daphne and Freddy. Horrors! :
