>> dB bring the analog and the digital to the Montreal stage

by MARK SLUTSKY

There may be a few acts out there named dB, but the Montreal electronic duo composed of Andrew Malamud and Blake Markle has more justification than others. “We’re Drew and Blake,” says Malamud. “So that’s what we wanted to name it. And we do downtempo beats—it all makes sense.”
The group’s played around town quite a bit in the last two years. “We really focus on our live show,” Malamud says. “I’m a bit of an analog enthusiast. I collect vintage keyboards from the ’60s and ’70s and restore them.” That, plus computerized beats by Markle, equals dB.
Though they’ve been on a little hiatus for the past couple months, the pair has spent that time constructively, signing with Toronto label 2Top Records. Out soon will be a split 12-inch with Winnipeg’s Sinewave, who will join dB in mid-February to launch the record at the Casa del Popolo.

If you can’t wait, though, check out www.flatwax.com for a selection of fine MP3s. :
