Unwind yourselves

Friday night, you guys are gonna have to make room for me on the dancefloor. DJ Mark the 45 King, mostly just known as 45 King, will be throwing together a set at Blizzarts with BluRum13 and of course the Bridge residents DJ Lexis and Sevdee. You know what that means. Hip hop legend in the building. Everybody bust out their freshest gear, but not your newest kicks ’cause they’re gonna get stepped on! Kangol hats, platinum chokers, Champion hoodies and everything else on deck, though. 45 King is the man that flipped Marva Whitney’s “Unwind Yourself” into “The 900 Number” and gave hip hop one of its most recognizable breaks of all time. Somewhere between now and then, he produced Queen Latifah’s All Hail the Queen, Jiggaman’s biggest anthem, “Hard Knock Life” and Eminem’s “Stan,” on top of all his breakbeat compilations studied by so many DJs and producers. Not bad for someone that used to be DJ Breakout’s record boy. Be there early, it’s gonna get messy. Saturday will be a busy one too. Deadly Venoms Crew is doubling up with Montreal Bboying to bring you Represent 2009, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Greene Centre Gymnasium (1090 Greene). On the menu will be crew-vs.-crew, top rock, footwork and powermoves battles to keep everything properly represented, and big cash prizes at the end, so don’t miss it. Check.

For the MCs, there’s a separate battle at les Trois Minots on the same night—11 Check, the only bilingual freestlyle competition, is holding its December finals, where the 11 monthly winners of 2009 will square off. Check.

Tuesday night, I’ll be back at Blizzarts, holding my drink up in the air during my very last Teenwolf 3 a.m. power rock ballad. Three years of unforgettable memories wrapped into one last night of trickeries. Check arock.ca for the newest Peer Pressure mixtape, Brain Freeze. Check.
