Canadian Centre for Architecture To Jun 17 “Bird is the Word” Join the CCA for an afternoon surveying the local architecture created by birds and other small creatures in our neighborhood. Following a guided tour identifying local birds and trees, we will use found materials from our walk to design animal architecture for the smallest residents of rue Baile. June 3, June 17 at 4:30pm. McCord Museum May 24 – Nov 18 “Beyond Measure” features a selection of photographs from Edward Curtis’ project entitled “The North American Indian” completed in 1930. To Sep 03 “Inuit Modern” The exhibition organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario will feature Esther and Samuel Sarick collection, one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of Inuit art. Inuit Modern traces the transformation of 20th-century Inuit art and features more than 175 works by 75 artists, including sculptures, prints and drawings. To Oct 08 “Mary Pickford and the Invention of the Movie Star” Primarily drawn from the Rob Brooks Mary Pickford Collection of the TIFF Film Reference Library – an archive consisting of some 2000 items that stand as a testament to the heritage left by one of the world’s greatest silent film stars. Mtl Museum of Fine Arts To Oct 07 “Beyond Pop: Tom Wesselmann” The exhibition will examine Wesselmann’s focus on the process of stylization, which casts him as an heir to both Ingres and Matisse. To Aug 05 “Fragmentation” As part of the first edition of the International Biennial of Digital Art (BIAN), the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will present, for the first time in North America, “Fragmentation,” an adaptation of three scenes taken from the show LIPSYNCH directed by Robert Lepage for the ReACTOR 3D projection system designed by Sarah Kenderdine and Jeffrey Shaw. “Napoleon: Gift of the Ben Weider Collection to the  Montreal Museum of Fine Arts” exhibit. 1379-1380 Sherbrooke W.

Musée d’art contemporain To Jun 17 “Carsten Nicolai – Projection series” In connection with the International Digital Arts Biennial in Montréal, the museum will present the latest installation by the Berlin-based artist . To Oct 08 “On Abstraction” Exhibit of abstract works by various artists including Franz West, Martha Townsend, Vik Muniz and Kelly Mark. May 24 – Sep 03 “Zoo”  an exhibition that is bound to spark debate on the highly topical question of the place accorded animals and nature in today’s universe.This summer show features works by twenty or so Québec, Canadian and international artists, including David Altmejd, Trevor Gould and Ai Weiwei. To April 4, 2016 “A Matter of Abstraction”  brings together a hundred or so works produced between 1939 and the present illustrating the wide-ranging visual ramifications of the expression of abstraction. 185 Ste-Catherine W.

Palais des Congrès May 27 “Tour the Archaeological Field School” The Archaeological Field School opens its doors to the public. Meet archaeologists and students from the Université de Montréal who will present the findings of their research at the birthplace of Montreal. They’ll tell you about the astonishing discoveries made when unearthing the remains of Fort Ville-Marie. 11am-5pm. 201 Viger W.

Pointe-à-Callière To Dec 31 “400th anniversary of the birth of Maisonneuve” To mark the 400th anniversary of the birth of Paul de Chomedey, sieur de Maisonneuve, Pointe-à-Callière has organized a series of talks, activities, and events that will lead us in the footsteps of the founder of Montreal all year long. To mid-September 2012: Tribute to Maisonneuve is a showcase featuring objects and manuscripts, which can be viewed on the mezzanine level at Pointe-à-Callière, the Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History. To Mar 31 “Samurai – The Prestigious Collection of Richard Béliveau” will showcase some 275 pieces, such as full armours including helmets, masks, and clothing, as well as spears and swords, not to mention functional objects relating to the warriors’ daily lives and culture: tea bowls, calligraphy scrolls, and face masks—very rare items that are not often seen on display.  “Where Montréal Was Born,”  a multimedia show, “Montréal Love Stories – The Cultural Connection,” the Youville Pumping Station – Pointe-à-Callière’s permanent exhibitions are a wonderful way to learn about Montreal, yesterday and today. “Yours Truly” A multimedia show where spectators get to learn about the birth of Mount Royal, the arrival of the Amerindians, the founding of Montreal, French and British regimes, the modern era and the development of networks. The show is presented daily, every half hour: Tue-Fri 10:30am-4pm; Sat-Sun 11:30am-4pm. 350 Place Royale, Old Mtl.
