MAN BITES DOG: The pee in power

by SCOTT SAXON

February 23, 2012

Another day trying to make ends meet in dusty Highfield, Leicester. Michael Harper and his pal Richard Boyce decided a bit of heroin would break the drear, and chose an electricity sub-station as their shooting gallery, deducing that, while they were there, they could steal some copper wiring. Boyce, declaring his knowledge as an electrician, drained the oil from the conductors and the pair loaded Harper’s car with the copper. Harper then  had to pee, and chose a power transformer to do so against. Harper quickly found he had nowhere near enough urine to douse the fireball in which he suddenly was engulfed.

As Harper burned, Boyce drove off. Police investigating the explosion later found Harper—a charred, whimpering lump—right where Boyce left him.

Though Boyce suffered burns to his hands, his injuries didn’t serve him as well as Harper’s. Factoring in Harper’s permanent disfigurement, a judge sentenced him to a modest year in prison, while Boyce was sentenced to four.

Boyce’s legal representative blamed the episode on the “pursuit of the purchase of drugs,” ignoring the ill-considered urinal as the true cause.

Boyce quattro anni.
