Tonight, Thursday, Sept. 9, a certain vodka company presents the shamelessly self-promoted Absolut Thirstdays at Exit. While the blatant corporate branding is kinda wack (granted, dance music has long strayed from its counterculture roots, but we can still dream, no?), DJs Soundshaper, Secktor and Mario Luis will surely bring the realness with their deep and sexy vibes. Toronto's Patrick DSP, Ottawa's the Coffee Man and Quebec City's Vicious Kaye headline the otherwise local roster of DJs at Heaven 3 this Friday, Sept. 10. Dress code is "blue and white" and will feature two rooms and every variation on trance known to man, including hard, acid, progressive, unleaded, decaf and partially hydrogenated. Info at 594-6453. Also on Friday, the Parallaxe team (DJs Slap + Endless and Mir + Bleuchut) will host the third installment of their Parc event at O Patro Vys. If you haven't already been, expect some adventurous DJ tag-team meanderings on several decks at once. Five dollars at the door. Saturday, it's more jungle hijinx as the IDJ Crew welcomes special guests la Bloukak from France and Dez_One & EldamRy from Quebec. Of course, no IDJ party would be complete without residents Nitrous, Galaksy, Axionfigga and MC Loco. So what are you waiting for? Get on the bus, Gus! Dial 401-6774 for deets. Likewise on Saturday, le Chill will be the place to be for some alternative news and sub-bass frequencies. At 8 p.m., the We Are Watching You Big Brother event will screen the Sundance-award-winning doc G.N.N. (Guerrilla News Network) and at 9:30, Alex Jones's controversial doc 9/11: The Road to Tyranny, followed by DJs sets by DJ Aikido, Pujari and Semira. Ten dollar cover. Also on Saturday, one-man trash blues band Bob Log III rips it up at la Sala Rossa. This week at Salon Daomé's Dizzy Tuesday, soak in the tech-house vibes of DJs MightyKat and Manousos as they continue this headstrong early-week affair. On Wednesday, DJ Belan' zek rings in the school season with some serious indie rock and Britpop for not-so-serious people at his weekly Wednesday Is My Girlfriend night at Saphir. Expect some giant balloons, girls in kilts and special guest DJ Pat Lipstick. Cover is "pay what you can." Chug, chug, chug, chug! Diskoakimbo@sympatico.ca |
