If you're in a rush to tighten up your agenda for the week, you should know that the Kreative Team is at work once again, bringing you another edition of their Thursday Night War DJ battles over at Korova (3908 St-Laurent). This Thursday, Sept. 2, check out "Superstar" DJ Manspino vs. "Two Scoops" DJ Bigg Kaff in a fight to the death. Things start poppin' around 8 p.m., and a loud crowd is always welcome. Heard through the grapevine that Montreal's own suburban basement producer/prodigy Sikh Knowledge has been officially selected to attend the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy seminars happening in Rome, Italy, in early November. Not a bad choice for a Montreal representative, and if all goes well, this will aid in the fire under Sikh's ass to actually release some of the hot shit that he's sitting on. Just joshin' brother, I know you've got a plan, plus you're out of my league like Jackie Robinson. Congrats, and good luck. Check out www.redbullmusicacademy.com if you don't already know the skinny. Looks like DJ Manifest and 7D are two Montreal heads who may have decided to mess with a classic, but at presstime, Metropolis Music could not be reached for comment. Their new project, The Black Star Remix Album sounds pretty self-explanatory, but did these guys remix Mos Def and Kweli? Are these remixed covers of Black Star songs? 7D rapping over Hi-Tek beats? If you've got stupid questions like me, then head down to their record release party on Saturday, Sept. 4, at Blue Dog's Back to Basics weekly where, along with the turntable talents of DR One, I'm sure all your questions will be answered. If you can't make Blue Dog, maybe you can flex at the listening party at Sneaker Freaker (3630 St-Laurent) earlier in the evening at 8 p.m. Can't forget that Straight No Chaser magazine affiliate, design magnate and music aficionado Tyler Askew is in town to showcase his musical selections at Therapy this week. While splitting design work between record labels like Ubiquity, Archive, Spiritual Life Music, Far Out and Nu Era, he's also been able to make his mark writing for Straight No Chaser's Transatlantic Audio column with Karl Injex, and held down the decks at NYC's real music nexus Rude Movements from its beginnings. Jojo Flores, Misayo and Mike Fresco give him a Montreal welcome on Thursday, Sept. 2, at Jello (151 Ontario E). Doors are at 10 p.m., with a $6 tax before midnight, and $8 after. Seven reasons you must trash the junk... Hot child in the heart of the city… fathead@videotron.ca |
