Days like this

by SCOTT C

I left the balcony door open last night like I usually do, and woke up to the sight of my own breath floating in the cold in the room. Like a well-timed kick in the ass, fall is creeping up whether you like it or not, so it's best that you get what's left of summer out of your system.

Nobody seems to do September better than Concordia University, whose annual orientation concerts aim to give people something to talk about. This year, students and everyday people are gonna get amped with Kardinal Offishall, who's set to headline the first concert on Sept. 15. Joining him on stage will be Little Brother's producer extraordinaire 9th Wonder and his pals Cesar Comanche and Supastition. Locals Specifics and Loe Pesci are also set to perform, not to mention DJ Mana and Toronto's Masia. On Sept. 16, the music continues with the Legendary Wailers returning to Montreal, accompanied by Mossman on the decks. Stay tuned for further info on both of these events.

Got a call from Plateau diehard Grandtheft informing me about a little misunderstanding. It appears that the Eye 2 Eye launch that I spoke of last week was actually happening in conjunction with a new Tuesday night at Club Nexxt. The night, called Game Tuesdays, features the talents of Grandtheft, DR One and DJ Kidd, spinning hip hop, reggae and R&B. Your $5 entrance fee also includes the one and only D-Shade, who will be your host every single week.

This week, Jojo Flores and DJ Misayo get back from their excellent Asian adventure and walk right back into a party at home. Tonight, Aug. 26, at Jello's Puma Classics, these two will be joined by Eddie Lewis (what up, E!) and special guests E-Man (Chez, Wave, MAW, Pro Deuce, NYC) and Shaun Escoffery (Oyster, London). If you love "Days Like This" and feel like hearing this anthem sung live by one of the best, then make your way on down tonight. Should be packed. Eight dollars before midnight, $10 after, with doors at 10 p.m.

Lastly, I want to know what happened to the mixed CDs people used to send in for review? My cupboard is bare, seen? If you got what it takes, send me a mix. If it's got the selection, or maybe some technical backflips, you could see your name here. I'm just trying to get into people's heads by checking the music they choose, y'know?

Seven reasons I can't wait to play this weekend:
1. Beatnuts "We Don't Give a Funk" (Penalty/Outside)
2. Foreign Exchange "Nic's Groove" (BBE)
3. K-OS Joyful Rebellion (Virgin/EMI)
4. Sly Dunbar "Sesame Street" (Taxi)
5. N8E "Brainstorm" (Kajmere)
6. Freddie Cruger "Bap Yo Head" (Jugglin')
7. DKD Future Rage LP (Bitasweet)
