It's all about D...

by SCOTT C

After a crazy anniversary party for Rockdeep last week, I couldn't let this week go by without sending shouts to Devious, who ripped a retarded '80s electro-funk set, and Godfather D, who put the "old" in old-school for the packed house that night. D had me doing the Roger Rabbit, the Wop and the Running Man to the point where I had to sit the hell down! If you'd like to get a taste of Godfather D doing what he does best, check him out at Immortal Technics at Kunta Lounge (2021 St-Denis) every Saturday night, where he plays old-school, new-school and all-school hip hop and R&B.

Fans of local funk band Free Oxygen can check out the fruits of this five-man team online this week when their first single "The Earth Is My Living Room" is up for grabs at www.garageband.com/artist/thefreeoxygenband. These guys have been tooling around stages in the city for a couple years now and are about to release their first full-length. Get a taste!

This Friday, July 30, Christian Pronovost brings his otherworldy styles to the ambiance of St-Laurent's Upper Club. It's always a good idea to catch up with this guy on the dancefloor when he's at the controls, so check him out as he blesses the weekly SEE with nothing but great music.

On Thursday, July 29, you can reminisce about the good ol' days of Crisco, Business and DJ Salvio's when the fully revamped Therapy presents Puma Classics with Jojo Flores. There was a time when the three aforementioned clubs were simply synonymous with the hallowed, crazy and debaucherous nights that have helped make Montreal the national night spot that it is today, not to mention having housed some of the greatest underground dance music ever. Jojo has all this shit on lock, of course, so expect to hear some things you haven't in quite a while. Therapy, if you didn't know, is right back at Jello Bar every Thursday night from now to eternity.

Big shouts to all the people who complained about the music me and Kobal played at Piknic Electronik this past Sunday. Although we have love for techno, minimal-tech, electro and trance (well, maybe not trance), it's not exactly what we specialize in. Even bigger shout to the few hundred people who danced from 4 till 8 p.m. to crazy summer sounds. Beautiful day!!!

Keep an eye out for the new Butta Babees video for "U Don't Want It, the Posse Cut Remix" in the coming weeks. These guys have been on tour in NYC and Philly this summer, working it to the bone as usual, and this joint will only get them more love when it hits the box. Keep steppin...
