Strap-on activists |

Just when Israeli military brutality seems to be getting a little bit repetitive, they toss in something new to keep their bad boy image alive. Tired of having stones tossed at them while trying to break up demonstrations against Israel's Apartheid Wall, Israeli police came up with this clever bit of human-rights abuse: they tied a Palestinian kid and three activists to the windshields of their jeeps. Thirteen-year-old Mohammed Bedwan was one of several people strapped to Israeli jeeps to act as a deterrent to unruly protesters. Another was Rabbi Arik Ascherman, head of Rabbis for Human Rights. He and two other activists suffered a similar fate for protesting the preliminary beating Israeli border police gave Bedwan. An Israeli police spokesperson said that, "as a general rule," police don't expose civilians to physical danger. In this case there was photographic evidence showing they did. The Justice Ministry is investigating. » Scott Saxon |
