Booze, cooze and bruises

>> Talkin' 'bout the finer things in life with
Alabama Thunderpussy

by JOHNSON CUMMINS

Richmond, Virginia's Alabama Thunderpussy may look like your sister's worst nightmare, or the cast of the off-Broadway production of Deliverance. Once you talk to them, though, they prove to be just straight-shootin' Southern gentlemen with more than a passing fancy for good whiskey and Waffle House grits, and just happen to lay down a Southern-fried metal onslaught that would make any mama proud. The Mirror talked to guitarist Erik Larson and got the lowdown on life's more important things.

Mirror: What is your worst drunk story?

Erik Larson: I was in San Diego in 1998 and I was on the beach, sharing a bottle of Southern Comfort 100 proof with a girl I didn't even know. After the bottle was finished I passed out on the beach. She woke me up and made me stand up and I just started throwing up everything I ate that day all over me. To this day I can't smell Southern Comfort without wanting to wretch - and I can't stand beaches.

M: What is the most fucked-up show you have ever played?

EL: I used to play drums for a band called Avail. We were playing with Snapcase in '96 in Dayton, Ohio. Snapcase started their set and the bouncers were part of this crew called the Courage Crew and they decided to fight Snapcase and this huge brawl happens onstage. We get involved so it's Snapcase and Avail against and all of these skinheads from the audience and The Courage Crew bouncers. The singer in Snapcase had to get 30 stitches and there was blood everywhere.

M: What is the weirdest place you have ever had sex?

EL: It was when I was in high school, in the east stairway next to the gymnasium while they were having a pep rally. It was with this cheerleader and I was a scumbag punk rocker and I pulled her out of the pep rally. I guess she wanted to slum it for a while.
