Got a note from local rapper J Seven earlier this week announcing that his Web site is officially up and running. This young MC whose rhyme style has been compared to Eminem's is working hard to get the word out about what he has to offer, and the site is just the beginning. Check out www.j-seven.com for more details.

Found out this week that De La Soul's one and only Maceo will be DJing at Exit for a very special New Year's party this year. We just can't seem to keep De La out of the city. Keep 'em coming, I say.

This weekend in Montreal seems to be a toss up of what to do, depending on what you're into. Local hip hop outfit Specifics has just returned from NYC with some interesting developments regarding their first release. They're playing a show on Saturday, Nov. 29, at Blue Dog, if you need to know what's up with them. Funk soul sensation Lee Fields rolls into town once again with the fabulous Sugarman 3 for a free-for-all at SAT on Saturday as well. Along with DJ Devious and electro-hit Evening live, this might be one of those nights to remember. Up the street at la Sala Rossa on the very same night, Heavyweight Art Installations have joined the bill with West London's Bugz in the Attic for a night of broken-beat dancefloor madness at the Goods. Take yer pick.

Looking forward, the Kalmunity gang have organized themselves once again for another chapter in their continuing saga of co-operative musical creativity with their next event on Dec. 5 at Kola Note. This group of artists made up of members from Ark of Infinity, Bell Orchestre, Parkside Jones, Moondata Productions, Arcade Fire, Synthetic Folk Hero, Determination Band and many more have carved out a progressively diverse take on the improvisational process and the group dynamic. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, with the doors opening at 9:30 p.m. Don't miss it.

Keeps your ears open for impending news on a night with Kid Capri in December, and the possibility of Common coming to town in January. Now wouldn't that be nice?

Seven reasons to call a meeting in the politics room:
1. Jeru the Damaja "True Skillz" (Redeye)
2. Limp Twins Tales From Beyond the Groove (Tru-Thoughts)
3. Some Addict "Untitled" (CDR)
4. DKD "Future Rage" (Bitasweet)
5. The Three Sounds "Upper Four Hundred" (Blue Note)
6. Grand Agent "Release Party" (GrooveAttack)
7. Jay-Z The Black Album (Roc-A-Fella)
