Vidiot's Box

When the two-disc special-edition DVD of the exquisite '68 kiddie epic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang arrived at the office, I realized that I have been waiting for this moment ever since I was six years old and first saw this movie.

Quite the hallucinogenic movie, the film is a cleverly disguised ode to capitalism and man's love of the automobile. Here, Dick Van Dyke, hot off the end of his hit sitcom, plays a single dad with two dear Aryan children who builds a flying car. Off they go to a magical land and fight off some oppressive forces to help a virtual army of small children overthrow a dictator.

This DVD has a brilliant "Singalong" feature that allows you to karaoke your way along with the musical numbers. My DVD player has a "repeat" function which allows me to replay a chapter over and over again. My landlord now has an official complaint from my neighbour, who says if she ever hears "that shitty shitty bang bang" song again, she's going to call the police. » Matthew Hays
