Speech impediment

by SCOTT C

If one more person asks me if Speech is coming to town with Arrested Development, I'm gonna have to call Mr. Wendel. You might have laughed at the sudden notice of Grandmaster Flash and AD at Medley on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m., but for a cool $10, it's definitely no joke. It's about to jump off, Speech or no Speech. And I don't expect to see all manner of carnage and destruction in the street if he doesn't show up either.

Seems that Nov. 19 is a very popular date indeed, with 7Heads affiliate and super-MC J-Live rolling into town for a DJ set at Tokyo on the very same night. I know what you're thinking: a DJ set? Before you start ranting about wanting to see J rap like he does so well, understand that this cat is a multi-talented individual who is about to get in you with some ill music. He does have skills, so give it a chance. Oh, and there are free Heinekens between 10 p.m. and 12 p.m. The tax is $12.

On Monday, Nov. 17, the gang from GNN (Guerrilla News Network) gets set to screen the post-9/11 film Aftermath at Concordia University (1455 Masionneuve, Room H-110). The film, directed by GNN founder and creative director Stephen Marshal, is narrated by hip hop legend Paris and shot in six cities. It features nine people answering 11 questions that have been bubbling in the subconscious of people everywhere since the "day that everything changed." Challenging the official version of the story, expect a healthy discussion to follow this very important flick.

I got word the other day that the Bugz in the Attic tour had been cancelled in Toronto, not because of scheduling, illness or money, but because T-Dot didn't get the DJs that they wanted from the nine-man crew. So, for once, Montreal and Ottawa are slated for a wicked show that is not stopping in Toronto. Check out DJs Afronaught and Mark G Force on Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Goods. La Sala Rossa is in for a prime West London treat.

Seven reasons that's life in a chestnut:
1. BAW Collective "Don't Stop" (Do Right)
2. Pocket Dwellers Lifecheck (PD)
3. Will.I.Am "Swing By My Way" (BBE)
4. Specifics "Just Gold" (LP)
5. Lexicon Youth is Yours (Spytech)
6. Murr feat. Rustic Hut "Fall Apart" 12" (PTR)
7. Mark de Clive Lowe "Relax Unwind" (MAW)
