In other reggae news, Mossman has resurfaced once again with a slew of plans for the coming weeks. You can check him and the Contraband out at the Swimming on November 1 for $6, or you can wait till Wednesday, November 5, when he starts a new night at Korova called Classik Wednesdays. Rotating DJs will include Mossman, Bunny, J.King, Khalid, Don Pedro and others spinning dub, reggae, funk, ska, Latin, breaks, jungle, hip hop and everything else you can think of. A little down the road on November 15, look for the Mossman Sound System alongside Black Redemption Sound System's Ras Kush for a show at Club Soda. The Haitian-born, Brooklyn-based selector has a comprehensive knowledge of Jamaican music that spans rock steady mainstays, dancehall burners and pre-digital dub. Not to be missed. Although Jojo Flores and the Therapy family are without a home right now, the longest running deep house and garage fixture in this city is still kickin'. On Thursday, November 6, they welcome New York's Blaze to Montreal for a night at Stereo, while on November 7, '90s vocalist Jody Watley makes an appearance at Time Supper Club. No word yet on where Therapy will officially put down roots again, but I'll keep you posted. The Rockdeep crew is also sizing down their weekly Tuesday of funk, soul and hip hop at Saphir to a monthly installment. I'll be up in there next Tuesday, November 4, playing records to celebrate LB's birthday, but it'll be the last weekly throwdown for a while. Make sure you can make it out. A big, 6-foot-2 bird told me that good ol' Buck 65 has given up the hobo life for now so that he can enjoy the splendour of Montreal. Welcome to the club, Rich, and I say keep 'em coming. Do I see a Montreal-only Sebutones Reunion Concert? Um, no. Do I see Halifax taking over this city block by block? Hells yeah! Seven reasons everyday is Halloween: Happy B-day, LB! It's just begun… fathead@videotron.ca |
