"We've really kicked the bucket of ridiculous stuff over the edge," says Monteith, eschewing the campy Rednex comparison in a recent phone interview from deep within his secret sonic laboratory. "It's all discordant, hooky and happy, but then things will fall apart." Taking a cue from Herbert's mistake-fuelled mandate, Crackhaus have brought their infectious live energy into the studio, sampling everything they could get their hands on and weaving it into funky, silly, techno gold. "We're making it more physical. We just run around the studio throwing things and sampling things. For one track we accidentally hit the keyboard and made a horrible flute noise, which sounded great. Another loop sounds like a distorted, muted trumpet that's being played by someone who never played a trumpet before. It's really fucked up, it's just nuts."
Tonight, Thursday, Oct. 9, while the cat's away the mice will play and as Mini continues her tour in Brittany, Paris and through to Berlin, DJ Philgood is more than ready to fill her shoes at Overdose. Saturday, Oct. 11, Mini's spot at Blizzarts' Chemistry will be filled by none other than the inimitable Sean Kosa. If y'all haven't seen this man in action, he's absolutely sick, so don't miss it! Also on Saturday, it's another IDJ jungle event for the Montreal massive. You know the deal, call 401-6774 for details. After four releases on Consigned Records, one on Spanish label Deck Audio and several more slated on Immigrant Records, Intrinsic Design, and Subconscious Elements, local B.C. transplant Noah Pred has been slowly making a name for himself on the techno release circuit. Returning from his own European excursion this summer, Remedy is his new bi-weekly night, starting this Friday, Oct. 10, at Stereobar. Special guest that night will be Nivoc.
