Large mouth bass in your face

by RAF KATIGBAK

Okay, before we get started you need to do three things. First, go out and get the biggest fish you can find (preferably a large mouth bass or red snapper). Second, rub garlic and pour lemon juice all over said fish. Third, if you've been going to the weekly Sunday Piknic Electronik events at Parc Jean-Drapeau, cook said fish in tinfoil at 350-400 degrees for 25 minutes and pack it up for the final Piknic happening this Sunday, Sept. 21. If however you haven't been going to the weekly outdoor showcases, you'll want to take said fish and beat yourself over the head several times. For those of you now sore from too much bass in your face, the good news is that there's still one Piknic left (with as yet undetermined guests) and you can't miss it. A great, green location with awesome sound and a beautiful view of the city, the Piknic is the perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon. Check www.metronomic-family.com/piknicelectronik.htm for more details.

Over at O Patro Vys, the Lattakeuse Dimage collective teams up with David Kristian for some live beats and live painting. At the end of the night, the five eight-foot-squared canvases are getting auctioned off, so make sure to stick around. Cover is $4.99.

Friday, Sept 19, Montreal junglists unite as two of our best young producers come together for a double launch of indie releases. RCola and Black Market will be taking over Blue Dog for a blast of original homebrewed jungle-core at its finest. Of course there will be copies of Black Market's Modified Sabres Megamix and RColas "Lead the Way" on hand for those of you who want a home version of the expected insanity. Residents Krinjah, Stabba and MC Y will of course be on hand to provide back-up.

Also on Sept. 19, Chicago/San Diego tech-house dons H-Foundation (aka Halo & Hipp-e) will be headlining at the SAT. Also on the bill is a live set from Montreal sensation Fred Everything and a DJ set by Jay Tripwire. If you haven't seen any of these guys before, you must come out to this event. In a word, slammin'.

Saturday is a big night, so rest up. Biological Project: Extension 303 is a tech-oriented party with an emphasis on acid, psy-trance and hardtek featuring the U.K.'s Rowland the Bastard, Austria's Lori the Hi Fi Princess and a slew of local acts both live and on the ones and twos. Call 720-9945 for details. Also that night, Chi-town spinstress DJ Heather will be at Inbeat records for a special in-store at 7 p.m. before her Aria gig. And then there's the Internet Wrestling Syndicate (IWS) presenting Un-F'n-Sanctioned at le Medley. What does it have to do with dance-music nightlife? Nothing. But I can almost guarantee you a good time with loads of sweaty buff guys (kinda like a circuit party, except instead of massage circles they'll have table-smashing body slams). For the main event, the fans bring the weapons so be sure to bring along a folding chair or crappy acoustic guitar. Tix are $15 in advance.
