Steamed: All this talk about fuel-efficient cars and the solution is right under our noses. What do we have lots of in Canada? Trees and lakes! And what can we make those into? Wood and water! So why are we using gasoline to power our cars and trucks? We need to use steam. No more gas stations, just fill your tank with water and your truck with kindling and away we go. Tiny Power Steam Engines of Branson, Missouri, makes steam engines to fit damn near any car, truck or end table at www.tinypower.com.

Fart machine: Or you could go an entirely different way and copy Harold Bate, a chicken farmer and inventor from Devonshire, England. Bate has been running a five-ton truck and a 1953 Hillman for years on methane gas produced from chicken droppings. That’s the same stuff found in farts. Turns out methane is more efficient than petroleum. Let one rip at ww2.green-trust.org:8383/2000/biofuel/batesmethane.htm.
