Just got wind that Quannum artists Lifsavas will not be performing at the September 11 Blackalicious show at Medley, but don’t let that stop you from showing up. Tonight, Thursday, August 28, Tokyo’s Get Busy welcomes Battle Axe recording artist Mr. Brady back up in the place for a live show in support of his new record Dirty. Last time I saw Brady, I was absolutely amazed that someone so weeded could even stand up, but there he was doin’ his thing, and quite well I might add. He’ll be joined by DJs Steady B, D.R. One and Johnny Jungle as well as native boom-bap outfit Slangblossom. Also tonight, DJ Bliss fires up the Grill when he welcomes guests DJ Static and Professor Groove down to Blizzarts for a set of nothing but the breaks. These guys do it right, so all you have to do is dance. Coming up on Saturday, September 13, you can make your way to CÉGEP André-Laurendeau where the legendary Marcia Griffiths and Beres Hammond will be entertaining the masses with all manner of reggae hits. Locals Little D, JoJoe and Kulcha Connection will also be on the bill, so pick up your tickets soon. For info call 368-6808. Also on that Saturday, Toronto MC Mr. Roam hits Montreal with producer/DJ Mr. Attic from Da Grassroots for a Choice Cut Records showcase at la Sala Rossa. Roam was featured in URB’s Next 100 this year, and has an album coming out in September. Check out www.choicecutrecords.com. This Sunday, August 31, marks the first Coco Café to showcase nothing but the guys. Boys Night Out will shine the spotlight on acts like Northern Lights, General Zodd, Mark Harris and Jason Joseph basically speaking their mind about life, love, sex and all that, in various poetic and musical expressions. This Sunday-night affair happens in the suave confines of Quartier Latin, so don’t front. Seven reasons the grand reconciliation is fleeting: I know how you feel, man… fathead@videotron.ca |
