Everybody loves
the sunshine!

by SCOTT C

I had the opportunity to play some music at Parc Jean-Drapeau over the weekend, where DJ Kobal and I were graciously invited to play at Piknic Electronik. This is perhaps the perfect way to wind down the remaining weekends of the summer, with several thousand watts of sound in the hot, sunny, lazy afternoons. Every Sunday, they set up a massive sound system right under the sculpture at Place de l'Homme and let it rip from 1 p.m.–8 p.m.. We had a great day with the people who came out for the music, and with people who just happened to be on Île Ste-Hélène and followed the sound. This week Robert de la Gauthier plays a solid, eight-hour set for your listening (and dancing!) pleasure. It's only $5 to get into the perimeter, and the metro lets out only minutes away. Get it while you can.

It's probably a good idea for you to check out Jojo Flores and Therapy's new digs over at Exit this Thursday, August 7, as they welcome back E-man for yet another throwdown. This guy has consistently ripped it every time he's been to Montreal, and he must keep on coming back for a reason, right? Check him out as he dips into Exit for the first time. For more info check www.therapymontreal.com. On Saturday, August 9, our own Bless teams up with Maestro Fresh Wes, Island City Monsters, J-Seven and dance crews Extreme and Total Effect for a show at Le Medley as part of good ol' Under Pressure. Tix are $14 in advance and $20 at the door, with the all-ages show starting at 9 p.m. As some of you well know, Under Pressure starts this weekend, with all the graffiti that you can swallow. For the last seven years this annual blowout has attracted writers, b-boys, b-girls, MCs and turntablists from around the world, and this year is no different. This Sunday, August 10, if you head down to the alley right behind St-Laurent metro, and the usual parking lot just down from Foufounes Électriques, you should be able to get your fill of hip hop culture. As a precursor to all the weekend festivities, writers are invited down to Off the Hook (1021A Ste-Catherine W.) on Friday, August 8 for the Black Book Session. Apart from shootin' the shit with writers from all over and beyond, you can also drop outlines and make connects with like-minded individuals. Grandtheft and Metrix will provide beats, with complimentary refreshments provided by Our Man Harry.

Seven reasons there's nothing real about reality TV:
1. The Jack Movement EP (Down in the Attiq)
2. Stark Reality Now LP (Stones Throw)
3. Party Fun Action Committee Let's Get Serious LP (DefJux)
4. Skitz "Murderer" (Champion Soundz)
5. Gods of Taste "Tiger" (Sinistresound)
6. Clarence Carter "Devil Woman" (Atlantic)
7. Madvillian "Wake Uppers" (CDR)
