Tonight's the night |

by RAF KATIGBAK
After two years of steady rockin' the deep and classic house at Jello Bar, Jojo Flores' Therapy nights will be moving on to new digs at Exit. Make sure to drop by the inaugural party at Exit tonight, Thursday, July 31, with residents Flores, Misayo and B'ugo and guest Eddie Lewis. Next week the special guest is E-Man from NYC. If you think your jit's the shit, drop by Amnesia tonight for some serious booty bass action as DJ Bounce reps the Ottawa scene with some seriously crunked-out, DJ-Assault-style madness. Backing him up on the decks will be DJ Sarcastic (who promises some exclusive new tracks cooked up just for this occasion) and La Mafia Electronique's Seko & Nathan Burns. Three-buck cover, three-buck drinks - work it! Also tonight, in the greatest meeting of giants since Godzilla fought Ghidorah (sorry, still in Fantasia mode), Montreal's live drum & bass ambassadors Dr. Noh and dB will be headlining at O Patro Vys. Dr. Noh have been busy tweaking some new sounds (how about some "chill-gabber"!?) which they'll be unleashing on the crowd, while dB have been putting the finishing touches on their new album which, from what I've heard, rocks in a big, big way. DJ Ramdac rounds out the line-up for what is sure to be a fun evening of heady grooves. This Saturday, August 2, the Rad'a Gallery continues to rep leftfield electronica with another slice of live electro-organic music. Armed with guitar, pedals and a drum machine, Toronto's Beef Terminal will be laying down some seriously haunting atmospheres as Natacha's Recording's Figues intends to wrap listeners in a warm blanket of sound and get all snuggly-wuggly. Cover is $5 at the door. Two blowout events going on Friday as Refuge Electronik presents Just a Sound 3 featuring live percussionists and DJs One, Alek, G, Vega and The Autist in various solo and versus configurations throughout the night. The locale will be the Salle Belle Gueule (5585 de la Roche). Check www.refuge-electronik.com for more details. Also on Friday, east meets west at Meet Me at the Gates 2. Taking place at O PatroVys, MMATG2 features Dub Gabriel, Piki Chappell, Nivoc and Subluna and a whole lot of eye candy courtesy of Moment Factory and Carlito Dalceggio. Don't forget to check out the myriad of events at this weekend's gay pride celebrations, including the Sex Garage stage (on de Maisonneuve between Berri and St-Denis) which features Plastik Patrik, the Cherry Persuasion, Lesbians on Ecstasy, Lederhosen Lucil, DJ Tok, Zilon, Rico Cocono and Frigid. Dance like no one's watching! Diskoakimbo@sympatico.ca |
