Jeff, Jephte and no respect |

If you get a chance to pass by l’Escogriffe this Saturday, June 28, you might get to see Montreal’s premier Afro-beat ensemble in action. Afrodizz bring their eight-piece heat to the stage where they recorded that infamous demo circulating between hungry locals. It’s only a matter of time before these guys blow, so see them while you still can. The tax is only $7. The same night, over at Salon Daome (141 Mont-Royal E.), you can take in the sweet and soulful sounds of DJ Moka, in town from NYC to do his thing. Daome has a full plate next week, with Andy Williams and Simon Warwick busting the next Afro-funk party on July 2, and Spiritual Life Music’s Jephte Guillaume on July 4 and 5. All of these nights are, amazingly enough, free - in the spirit of all those other Jazz Fest shows, I guess. It’s always been kind of a crap shoot to try to put something on during the Jazz Fest, but part of that has to do with just how many different things there are for all of us to check. Pick up a program and look closely, because there’s just enough good shit in there that you’re bound to miss something. A special invite goes out to everyone who hasn’t been out to Dancing Mocha Jo’s at Parc and Fairmount yet, as DJ Kobal and I throw down many styles for the dancefloor and more at the Leftfoot Sessions on Saturday, June 28. This is the ill space, but you’ll see that eventually… I could have sworn I saw Rodney Dangerfield lampin’ at the street sale last week, but I was soooo overwhelmed by the non-stop onslaught of "beautiful people" that I was momentarily blinded. When my sight returned, he was gone. Seven reasons it’s time to take it up a notch: Take a bow, Moonhead… fathead@videotron.ca |
