The weekend |
|
by SCOTT C
Friday, April 18, you can hit Salon Daome at 141 Mont-Royal E., where Andy Williams and DJ Kobal will be warming up the place with some funk, Afro-beat, Latin, soul and jazz for the duration of the evening. Nice place for the serious dancers out there. Lots of room, sometimes live percussion and a dancefloor that works with you. Next. Saturday night is when the freaks come out. Underground hip hop heads should know that Lone Catalysts will be making a special stop at Blue Dog on Saturday, April 19. The boys from Back to Basics (D.R. One and Bobby Fischer*) host the Pennsylvania duo for one night. Ten dollars before the show, and considerably less after. Up the street at la Sala Rossa on the same night, the Brass Knuckles Crew and I say thank you to all the people who came out and supported us at Blizzarts over the last four and a half years, with a musical celebration at the Goods. Expect only the best from the crates of Simahlak, Andy Williams, Simon B and yours truly. Eight dollars at the door. Big up to everybody who called or e-mailed to express their concern, but all good things must come to an end - or a new beginning. Nuff thanks to Blizzarts staff and management for the ups and downs, it was a good run from where I'm sittin'. What kind of Easter weekend would it be if Ricky D didn't ante up with yet another Ultimate Old School Party? That's right, the Affair takes place on Sunday, April 20, at Blu Nightclub (1426 Stanley) and boasts the best in R&B, rap, reggae, soca, disco and classic house. DJ Majess and D'Bandit (T.O.) on the decks, and Flight and Howard "Stretch" Carr hosting things, should make for a sweet night. If you need to know more about this semi-formal, 25-and-over event, call the hotline at 499-1021 or 830-MARK. That takes us to Monday, April 21, when the boys from WeFunk take over Casa del Popolo with Stone to the Bone, their monthly installment of pure funk on a weeknight. No tax, and easy going all the way - that is, if you like scorchers and drum breaks. You're definitely in good hands with Professor Groove and DJ Static at the controls. See you there. Seven reasons this list is back to stay: It's like you weren't even gone… incubator@hiphopsite.com |
