Put the Easter in your keister

by RAF KATIGBAK

Easter weekend is upon us and for all you believers out there, there's simply no better way to celebrate Christ's return than getting shit-faced and dancing your ass off.

Tonight, April 17, over at the Blizzarts, the Grill's weekly breaks crew T'Cha and Bliss have decided to join forces with other weekly breaks crew Broken (Poontz, D.Kai and Melon) to form the strongest Rebel Alliance since Bail Organa of Alderaan united with Garm Bel Imblis of Corellia and Mon Mothma of Chandrila under the Corellian Treaty (um, basically that means get ready for a night of seriously funky-ass music).

Right next door, Center Records co-founder db (Danny Boy) visits bd (Blue Dog) in what is sure to be a well-wicked live set of electro-techno. Also on hand will be residents Nathan Burns and DJ Seko. Cover is only three bucks, so make sure you check it out!

Over at le Swimming, local bass-drums-and-keys trio Test Pilot will be bringing their "stew of modern and old-school grooves" to the Montreal masses. Also on the bill will be live "trance-nova-house" duo Grasshopper. Cover is $6.

This April 18, Good Friday takes on a whole new meaning as Unity II's ever-successful Digital City night welcomes special guest Madame X for an evening of body art dubbed Skin Night. If you like ogling complete strangers getting paint smeared all over them as much as I do, you'll check that shit out! With Philgood and Soundshaper providing the beats, who could ask for anything more?

Don't forget to support community radio and have a great old time as CKUT's weekly electronic magazine "Modular Systems" (every second Tuesday from 3 p.m to 5 p.m.) presents Good Eggs at the Rad'a Gallery (841 Gilford). On hand will be two of Montreal's biggest names in experimental electronic music, Mitchell Akiyama and Tim Hecker. Tickets are only $5 at the door (free for paid-in-full donors) so make sure to catch these cats before they head off spreading their musical good cheer across Europe this summer.

Also Friday night, the live bug continues to spread as Stereo present Chicago's Grayarea. Described as a live assault of cymbals, drum pads, floor toms, keyboard, guitar and bass doing intricate breakbeats, sweeping melodies and pounding kick drums, Grayarea promises to rock your collective world.

Speaking of live breakbeats, Montreal's premiere live D&B band Dr. Noh will be performing this Saturday at O Patro Vys, along with Erna and T.O. breakcore DJ C64. For those of you who haven't seen these guys before, you simply must check 'em out. They're sicker than a Hong Kong airport!

Easter Sunday, Deejay Punk Roc gets it going at Saphir for eight bucks. For those of you not in the know, DPR is quite possibly one of the party-rockin'-est DJs around, so make sure you bring your dancin' shoes!
