Baby boy!

by SCOTT C

I've got to start this week off with an apology. I wanted to publicly acknowledge the people in Australia, England, Japan and Jamaica who regularly read this paltry slice of Montreal life, and are good enough to regularly get in touch. Unfortunately, I haven't exactly been holding up my end. You know, the part where I "respond" to greetings, questions and damning criticisms - all that. I'm really sorry, but the robot that I usually get to take care of that stuff has been acting up lately and I'm considering just taking care of things on my own from now on. Hopefully my man in Nottingham hasn't been arrested while participating in some dodgy peace march, or been rocked for his designer frames on the way back from the pub after watching the war for the evening. Hit me at the Inc. address for prompt response, otherwise, take a number. And don't take it personal, I just suck right now.

Coco Café is back for spring with Smackdown. On Sunday, March 30, head down to Quartier Latin for the engaging words of 10 performers who'll be competing for a cash prize. Doors are at 8 p.m. and the show at 9 p.m., with a $6 overhead. Hit up inobe@dsuper.net for more information.

Those of you who've been keeping up to speed on the month-long festivities associated with the dance festival Définitions non-applicable should know that the closing party, Kopaganda, is jumping off at E Cube (215 Murray) this Saturday, March 29. There'll be live performances by the Rhythm Mercenaries and Abra, as well as DJs Mister Mostest, White Hype, Specter, Who-See, Maysr and Naes. Expect an all-nighter with fresh paintings and live shit from the good ol' KOPS crew. $10. Congrats to Roger and Helen on the new seed! Welcome to Montreal, Nathaniel! That kid better have some talent in there somewhere…

Wait just a second, Jackson. Before you take off for the weekend of Saturday, April 5, you should probably know that black man with the plan Talib Kweli will be making his way to the Medley for a Concordia Student Union event. That's right, all you Concordia affiliates will be waving the tax at the door with the usual free ride, while the rest of the population of uneducated overachievers will have to cough up. Also on the bill that evening are BU the Knowledgist, Butta Babees, Euphrates and yours truly. I have no doubt that this will be a very special night people, so put some cash aside. $20 advance and $25 at the door.
