Heed the burning Bush

by SCOTT C

You can't ignore this shit. By now, the ridiculous ultimatum uttered by our favourite good ol' boy in charge, no matter how unbelievable it seems, is poised to create a domino effect of massive proportions. Think about it. If I can sit at home and watch a speech directed at the American people, us, and the rest of the world, and know in the core of my being that what is being put into motion is completely and utterly wrong and unjustified, then imagine the academics, intellectuals, politicians and pundits, not to mention the multitude of clued-in regular people worldwide, who are shaking their heads in disgust. Bush has simultaneously shot himself in the foot and put his foot in his mouth, while proudly sidestepping a foot in the ass from the international community. I watch news from around the world, try to stay abreast of world issues, and even read the Economist on the toilet regularly, but this is the kind of declaration that obviously none of us were expecting in 2003. I refuse to believe that this thrust forward is all because of Sept. 11, even if the tragedy provided a sturdy starting block for the "new face of world domination." I only hope that somebody out there with a relevant chess move will take a moment and think about everyone involved before they decide to follow their pride. These are big boys with big toys. Stop the madness! People have parties and shows to think about!

While the Montreal contingent gets primed and ready to head down to Miami for the annual Winter Music Conference, the rest of us get ready for some warmer days and a slew of goodies to coincide with the weather. Chris Pronovost might be bound for the Florida coast, but his Saturday night at Exit, Go Deep!, will be in good hands this week as Bettina Costanzo, aka Bougie Soliterre, takes the reins. Accompanied by none other than the more than capable Dr. Love, these two should have that place movin' this weekend.

This Friday, March 21, you can check out the Chopstick Dubplate record launch party at Blue Dog with Murda (Jack Beets) and RCola. These guys have some new plates featuring Terry Ganzie and Pinchers! Could be hot. Stabba and Krinjah on the set as usual.

Calling all dancefloor mavericks! Looks like the funky Scottish legend of Keb Darge will definitely be making an appearance in Montreal when he hits The Goods at la Sala Rossa on Saturday, March 29. Darge has made a name for himself as a DJ and the last word in obscure funk and soul for the dancefloor and beyond over the last 25 years, so consider yourselves warned.

Just a little note to all y'all with demos or mixtapes: send them in! I'm always listening for some new Montreal next shit, and I know it's out there. Don't be shy… :

Looking back, I could see the future yet again… incubator@hiphopsite.com
