On the same night, down at the proper Societé des Arts Technologiques, you can check out Washington duo Thievery Corporation as they bring their lounge-lizard asses to Montreal once again. I've never really been a big fan of these guys since an underwhelming Jazz Fest performance a few years ago at the Savoy, but for some reason, there's a whole lot of people in this city who will definitely be at this show. All of y'all who make a beeline for the front row when Antibalas comes to town should get ready for their March 29 show at le Spectrum. This seems to be the best place to see the band do their thing, apart from outside in the middle of a park somewhere, and just in time for spring (I think). Take a swing by www.greenland.com for all the details I have failed to provide for you here. Afrobeat is for the children! Time once again for Noctua number 3. The little show that could is doing it again in style this year with all kinds of willing participants in the festivities. Check out Joé Armando and his Orchestre Picante, Shadowboxerz vs. Mana (four on one!), Syncope, B.U. the Knowledgist, plus special appearances by Mellowmood, the Kops crew, Y.I.M., Jabal Al Nar (hot), Ms. B (blazin') and the Brass Knuckles Crew. That'a a lot of show for a measly $10, all taking place down at the Medley on Friday, March 21, so don't get caught out there. Got to mention a little call to arms I got last week from B-girl Lynx. She's been busy cooking up the recipe for original styles at her weekly Style Sessions breakdancing classes. Expect only the finest ingredients in toprock, entries, downrock, freezes, battling, freestyling and my favourite, working with rhythm. This throwdown happens every Saturday at Studio 303 & Studio 608, but you've gotta call (804-8643) and tell them you're coming. Get on the horn and get on the floor. Lastly, heard just recently that North Carolina's finest, Little Brother, are hitting Montreal for an April 4 show at le Swimming. Take my word for it, if you know anything about the rarity of a true hip hop standout, then you will be at this show. I'll be there if it kills me. : This one's just for you, T… incubator@hiphopsite.com |
