by SCOTT C Now, I’ve already heard the verdict on the Ursula Rucker gig last Friday at la Sala Rossa, and the consensus seems to be that the show was unbelieveable. I haven’t, unfortunately, been able to talk to anyone who decided to head down to Aria on the same Friday night for the Creative Differences tour featuring Living Legends, Eyedea & Abilities, OMD, XoLolanxinxo and Busdriver. The flyer was in my hand a week before, but I couldn’t get anything out of the club as far as finding out if it was actually happening or not, and I still don’t know. Those of you who shelled out dough to catch a glimpse of Jadakiss last Thursday night at Aria were probably relieved to see that he showed up in the first place, but a little disappointed when he decided not to perform in the end. For all of my efforts to connect with a seasoned Japanese master, it looks like I won’t be communicating with DJ Krush before he touches down in Montreal this Saturday, March 1, at SAT. I remember meeting Krush at Sona the last time he was here, and having a surprisingly engaging conversation with him and his interpreter. I’m sure he’ll get his point across just fine when he starts playing music. Tix are $20. Looks like it’s time once again to apply for a program that will take you to the next logical step if you are an aspiring producer of electronic music, or someone who sees themselves getting into the music business on an independent level. Someonelse has announced this year’s implementation of its Youth International Development Program that has selected 40 participants interested in their Electronic Music Entrepeneur Program since 2000. This year, 20 lucky people will work with Someonelse and international organizations like the British Phonographic Industry, Sonar (Spain) and Inpartmaint Distribution Japan to develop business opportunities that will hopefully pay off in the future. This is a great program for anyone who wants to combine their love of music with the often cloudy business side of being an independent artist in 2003. The application deadline is April 4 and you can find out all the info that I’m not telling you here at www.aemusic.com. Question. Anybody know the deal on 24K? This Montreal MC has squared herself away with some true heads in the New York game, but I’m wondering how many Montrealers have even heard of her. With her new album Quotable about to drop, this part-time professional boxer turned MC has wrangled a chance meeting with the Beatminerz into a prizefight. You can find out more if you visit www.24dangerspots.com, but if you’re familiar with her days in MTL, give me a shout, or pass on the word that I’m checking for her. Wouldn’t be right if I didn’t wish happy birthday to somebody, now would it? Best wishes go out to my girl Sophie Gareau, who celebrates another one this week. Enjoy it! : It’s all gone pear-shaped… incubator@hiphopsite.com |
