The T-not |
|
by RAF KATIGBAK Montreal clublanders deserve a big ol’ pat on the back. Last week I had the opportunity to immerse myself deep into Toronto’s club/party scene to witness first-hand exactly how they rock it in the T-dot (birthday shout-out to Sarah!). Let me tell you, Montreal rules. Not only are clubgoers here, on the average, cuter, but also certainly more responsive (meaning we actually dance) and have more of a vibe going (for lack of a better word). Of course this may have merely been a result of the particular clubs I chose (don’t ask me why I thought “Narcolepsy Night” sounded fun) or the fact that Toronto experienced a “major snowfall” Saturday causing widespread panic amongst the general public (remember, people, these guys call in the army when they’re having trouble scraping the ice off their SUVs). Either way, I left Toronto largely unimpressed. I am willing to give it another chance, however, so if any of you ex-Torontonians have any suggestions for fun nights out in T.O., lemme know and next time I head down I’ll give’er a go. Here in Montreal, as always, there’s a plethora of hot nights to check out this week. Looks like midweek madness continues as DNA Records’ Jacob Asher starts a new Tuesday-night shindig on March 4 at Saphir. Get ready for some serious party rocking as Asher, Sase One and Sean Kosa take over the tables. If y’all didn’t know, Kosa has already released some tunes on the Turbo sublabel White Leather, as well as on Bug Eyed Records as the Marlon Jacksons (his full vocal electronic duo with Asher). This yet-unnamed night is free for the ladies, with $2 drinks and a lot of tomfoolery (or as Asher puts it, “assholery”). Check it out! Montreal’s longest-running jungle/drum & bass weekly will blow out three candles on its birthday cake this Friday, Feb. 28, at Blue Dog. Junglist Fridays has been continuously packing in the Montreal massive since its start in 2000, with residents Stabba and Krinjah providing the best of old- and new-school sounds. This Friday, the duo welcomes many guests, including D&B stalwarts Jordan Dare and MC Fuse. Cover is only four bucks, so come on down and rinse it out! Free champagne and giveaways throughout the night! Montreal IDM pioneer David Kristian re-surfaces for a rare live set of electro this week at Blizzarts’s Chemistry Saturday. The night is in celebration of the launch of his latest 10-volume CD series on WiKKiD records. Of course resident DJs Bliss, Jordan Dare and Mini will also be on hand. Don’t miss it! : Dance like no one’s watching! Diskoakimbo@sympatico.ca |
