Unpopular evangelicals


 

A dark shadow may cast itself over the Christmas cheer of American evangelical groups after a survey they conducted found that most of those polled don’t seem to like them very much. The American Family Association bills itself as a group representing “traditional family values focusing on the influence of television and other media.” Recent content on their Web site criticized the ACLU, feminists, Muslims, abortion and homosexuals all in one day. They’re right-wing fundamentalists and proud of it and, full of confidence, asked the American public how they felt about evangelical Christians. The majority ranked them 10th on a list of 11 choices, higher only than hookers. A further dash of salt to their wound came in respondents saying they’d take homosexuals over evangelicals any day.

One evangelical, George Barna, wasn’t sure if blame should be placed on the media or themselves, but admitted religious conservatives “have a lot of work to do.” :
