Slip of the tongue |
|
by SCOTT C I was standing on the platform at Vendôme metro on Monday afternoon, en route to Loyola campus. My friend Elena and I do a show on CJLO Internet radio every week, and I was already an hour late. Ask anyone in editorial, and they’ll tell you without hesitation that I’m not exactly the most punctual soul, but I come through. Anyway, there I was zoning out on the platform, standing a good four inches behind the yellow line of safety, when out of the corner of my eye, I catch this little imp of a man staring at me with everything he’s got. This guy was about five feet tall and wore a parka zipped to the chin, and his face was covered in some serious Bedrock stubble. Normally, I would have just turned my head after an initial glance, but like some weird moment out of a David Lynch movie, I just couldn’t bring myself to look away. Now, not that I’m trying to make this anymore cliché then it already is, but for a second there, we were the only two people in the station. But, just when I felt some sort of mystical connection welling up inside me, thinking that maybe I actually might know this guy in some mysterious capacity, he goes and gives me the raspberry. Can you believe my man just stuck his tongue out and let it rip? Cue the train, and I come back to earth. If that was just some weirdo doin’ his thing, then why am I still thinking about it now? Thank God for music. If you’re familiar with Dan Zacks and his show Waxing Deep (3–5 a.m. Tuesdays on CKUT) then you know that if he’s having a party, you should make an effort to show up. This Friday, Dec 6, he presents Music for the People at 120 Mont-Royal E., inside Paul’s Boutique. Expect the usual jazz, funk, Latin, soul, Brazilian and Afro flavours, provided by DJs Lord Trak and Dan the man. Tell em I sent you and you’ll get in free, or say nothing at all and still get in free. On Sunday, Dec. 8, you can check out a Montreal original as Stephane Cocke celebrates 10 years as a DJ with a little party over at 980 Rachel E. The night, called First 10, will hopefully run the gambit of music that Stephane has managed to accumulate over the last decade, tastefully mixed with style by the man of the hour. : Seven reasons rare species require further study: Tell me something good… incubator@hiphopsite.com |
