Urban drama |
|
by SCOTT SEE If you think you’ve got some time between gigs, or studio sessions, photo shoots, auditions, contract negotiations, rehearsal, touring and promotion, then you might just be interested in giving up your busy schedule to the people at In My Lifetime. This production company has decided to make a documentary that delves into the wonderful world of the Canadian urban music scene. MCs, singers, dancers, promoters, DJs, poets, models, designers and anyone else who feels they fit under the big urban umbrella have an opportunity to get in on this. Sounds good to me, but no cameras please! I can’t willingly participate in this, simply because the idea of a film crew following me to get a goat plate at Curry Garden can’t be interesting to anybody but my mom. If you’re convinced your day to day is bound for the big screen, then get in touch with inmylifetime@hotmail.com or call (416) 320-0972 for all the details. Luciano, the reggae messenger of love, is coming back to town on Saturday, Nov. 16. This guy always packs in the lovers over at Rainbow, so you can expect a sellout show. Joining the man onstage that night for the reggae festivities are Warrior King, Kaliroots and Jah Cuttah. Tickets are $25 in advance, doors are at 10 p.m., show at 11 p.m. For more info, call Rainbow Ites at 486-9496. Looks like the once firmly rooted Heavyweight Productions has decided to make a slight shift as we come to the end of 2002. The Montreal-based graphic design house has become known as Heavyweight Art Installations in recent years, and has taken their interpretive live painting to many international locales, including London, Japan, Puerto Rico, Miami, and now Los Angeles. Co-founder Tyler Gibney will be setting up a Heavyweight studio in L.A. in the coming months, while Dan Buller and Gene Starship continue to reside in la belle province. More info in Heavyweight movements can be found at www.hvw8.com. Good luck to the crew in all their endeavours, you’ve been keeping it fresh for years. Please remember Jojo Flores and Osunlade in your prayers as they embark on an amazing North American journey this month in support of Osunlade’s new album. They’re at Jello on Nov. 21, of course. Also peep the album cover designed by our own Heavyweight Productions. : Seven reasons I’m a sucker for that shit: And then, his time was up… incubator@hiphopsite.com |
