Rudy Raines was driving around Chattanooga, Tennessee, his pal William King asleep next to him, with a few sacks of pot that needed drying. As he passed a convenience store, Raines thought their microwave would do the trick. Maybe he didn’t see the squad car out front. It’s possible. But surely he noticed that the man he exchanged small talk with on his way to the microwave was dressed in the uniform of the Chattanooga Police. Regardless, the store soon filled with the smell of nuked marijuana, and the cop wanted answers. But Raines must have known not to answer the cop’s question of “What’re you doing?” with the words, “Drying my marijuana.” Nope. In total, about a pound of marijuana was seized and the two men arrested on possession with intent to distribute—Raines also told the cop he was on his way to a rehab meeting to unload the stuff. : » Scott Saxon |
