Don’t be scared |
|
by SCOTT SEE Well, the day had finally arrived, and with all the hard work behind him, DJ Mana can finally unleash his new album Metamers on the world. Mana has a good ear, as you probably already know if you’ve ever seen him get down on the turntables, but you may be surprised to hear what’s cookin’ on this new LP as he explores a few different avenues. You can check out the launch party for Metamers on Thursday, Nov. 7 at Saphir. Mana will be doing a set with the KOPS Krew regulars Furious, Who-See, Maysr and Manzo. The record will be on sale there, as well as DNA and Noize. Looks like Mr. Scruff has been confirmed for a Montreal show on November 16 at the SAT. This Manchester geezer isn’t afraid to mix up his wide range of musical influences to the point of soulful hilarity, which he does so well on his new LP Trouser Jazz, now out on Ninja Tune. If any of you have been lucky enough to catch a few of the artshows/parties at 1619 William, then you’ll want to know that the last ever event in that space is now upon us. On Monday, Oct. 28, they’re presenting films by Portland, Oregon, directors Bill Daniels and Vanessa Renwick. Daniels will showcase The Girl on the Train in the Moon, a documentary that took 14 years to make and unearths the secret world of hobo graffiti, while Renwick presents a series of shorts on stuff like naked bicycling, rodeos and creepy peeping. Like I said, the Lucky Bum Film Tour is the last event at 1619 William (apt. 202) that you’ll ever get to, so check it out. It starts at 8 p.m., $7. It’s time once again for the Montreal Funk Federation to get their thing in action. This Saturday, Oct. 26, DJs Andy Williams and Kobal dust off the dusties for yet another journey into the secret realm of wicked music. This one’s a Halloween gig, so if you feel the need to dress the part, go right ahead. As usual, you’ll find the festivities at 215A Murray (metro Bonaventure). $5 if you’re dressed, $8 if you’re not. Don’t forget Coco Café on Sunday, Oct. 27, at Quartier Latin. This month they’re exploring the scary shit with an entire night dedicated to fear. Be afraid. Inobe, where the hell are you? You don’t answer the phone? Doors at 9 p.m., $6. : Seven reasons you’ll smile when you read this: Do as your heart wishes, it’s better that way… incubator@hiphopsite.com |
