by SCOTT SEE Those of you in search of that special selection of music that pulls you out of the house and uptown/downtown can chalk up another one. Anyone who likes a special blend of hip hop, funk, soul and jazz should check out the Jim Crow Jukebox at Missy Bar (250 Mont-Royal E.), every Wednesday night from here on in. DJs Sam and Nathan (the Dope Dealers) have an ill collection of music that they’ve been itchin’ to spring on anyone who’ll listen, so check it out. The Rockdeep family is rollin’ hard for October with good friends Chad Kent and DJ Spectr from Kops Crew helping out behind the decks on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Saphir, $4. RD also has a Halloween party planned for Tuesday, Oct. 29, with a $75 prize for best costume. Trick, treat and Rockdeep, kid. I looked up long enough to see that my boy Sase One will be holding it down this week when he teams up with the lovely DJ Rap for a Saturday-night drum & bass affair at Sona on Oct. 19. Sona has also booked the dude who blew up scratching records in his sock feet. The Ultimate Battle Weapon DJ Rectangle will be in town Friday, Oct. 25, for some West Coast flavour, I’m sure. If he’s still picking up turntables and using his feet and shit, then you’re in for some circus sideshow craziness with technical merit for good measure. He’ll be backed by residents Fabulous, Yunik, MC LD and DJ Wreck (whatup, Wreck!). Got a note from DJ Raid of the Butta Babees the other night. Apparently he, Zip and Manchilde will be having a two-hour, on-air panel discussion about the state of Montreal hip hop on Ill Groove Garden this Sunday night, Oct. 20, on CKUT 90.3 FM, starting at 11 p.m. Panelists will include Ozzy from Cypher Queenz, Orion from Off the Hook, Dice B from Catburglaz, Malik Shaheed from Musiqueplus, Mike Mission from Masters at Work and me, representing the INC. Should be interesting, so tune in. Look for a show from Atmosphere at la Sala Rossa on Oct. 31, featuring Slug, Mr. Dibbs and Blueprint. Also on that bill are Brother Ali, Dee Jay Bird and our man Sixtoo (1,200 hobos on the set!). Fast forward just a bit and you’ll see that Tony Touch is coming to Aria on Nov. 2. Tony Toca knows how to rock it, and has been doing this shit forever, so I suggest you make a plan. : Seven reasons things aren’t cut and dried: Sometimes, all you can do is let go… incubator@hiphopsite.com |
