Neo maxi zoom dweebie by RAF KATIGBAK When news of Doc Martin’s arrival at Stereo this coming Saturday, Sept. 22, hit my small circle of friends, we went apeshit. The scene was not unlike the one in The Breakfast Club after all the kids smoked up and started singing, dancing, running around and breaking windows by screaming (?!). Not many DJs can actually claim they make fans re-enact scenes from popular ’80s teen movies—except maybe Derrick Carter, word of whose eminent arrival in October caused all my friends to dress up like the guys from Revenge of the Nerds and perform the “nerd rap” (I was Takashi). But for some reason, Doc Martin can. He’s just that good. His multidimensional style, mixing deep house, acid, funk, tribal and classic house, has been rocking audiences for over a decade worldwide. Blowing up after his opening slot as Dee-lite’s DJ on their ’94 world tour, this L.A.-based deck wrecka has been destroying dancefloors from NYC’s Twilo to Liverpool’s now-defunct megaclub Cream. This is a great opportunity to hear an amazing (and surprisingly humble) DJ on a great sound system, so be there! Why not start Saturday night off right with Regresso, a loft party at 10 Ontario W., #603, with a killer line-up. Among the entertainers that evening will be the infamous Mike Gee (of “Your Granny Has a Grey-haired Punani” fame), Testpilot, DJ Mini, DJ Radiowhore, Baby Dino and Joe Harry who, word has it, is from St. Germain. Tickets are $5 in advance and are available at Je L’ai (159 Duluth), Duchess of Amsterdam (St-Marc below Ste-Catherine) and Center Records (St-Laurent above Laurier). Tonight, Sept. 19, drop by Runnin’ Thursdays at
Saphir to catch Montreal D&B legend turned D&B lawyer DJ Gnat
as he passes a bar exam of a very different kind (ouch!). If that weren’t
enough, it also happens to be the launch of the second Tour Sessions mix
CD. This time the sounds are courtesy Adam L, live in Ibiza. It’s
a Hawaiian theme and it’s free for girls before For you small party people (I mean people who like small parties, not raving midgets), check out the next installment of the IDJ party this Saturday, Sept. 21, featuring the usual suspects D-Joos, Galaksy, Axionfigga, Accomplice and Jada. Special guests this time are Jocelyn D and Queensize from T.O. Call 401-6774 for the low-down. For larger party people (yes, I mean fat people—sorry, phat people), check out Heaven 2 this Saturday, Sept. 21, an acid-hard-techno-nu-nrg-hard-trance-goa-psy-trance extravaganza featuring Furi0us, Android, Cosmos, WizZ, X-frog, E-leven and of course Peter (not the apostle).
