| Birdy
Dallas police entered the home of 48-year-old Kevin Butler to find the man had been stabbed to death. In the kitchen, Butler’s pet cockatoo also lay dead. Police suspected Johnny Serna of committing the crime, but outside of a long-standing feud between the two men, there was no hard evidence to go on, and Serna wasn’t talking. Should’ve got rid of the bird, Johnny. What could have ended up in the unsolved crimes file is instead heading to capital murder charges thanks to that cockatoo’s attempt to save his owner’s life. According to Detective Brent Mauldin, the cockatoo “came to his owner’s rescue by diving and pecking” the perpetrator. He then flew off, taking with him the perp’s DNA on his bloody beak. Though the bird didn’t make it, blood samples pointed to Daniel Torres, Serna’s half-brother. The two men have been arrested and are awaiting trial at Dallas County Jail. : |
