Master race The people at Target department stores may be more diligent in reviewing their stock after it was noticed that some of their summer fashions were a little red around the neck. Up for grabs was a selection of shorts, shirts and baseball caps bearing the words or numerical “Eight Eight,” a neo-Nazi code for Heil Hitler. The line was first brought to the media’s attention by Joseph Rodriguez, a 51-year-old Sacramento sci-fi and horror buff who had been drawn to a pair of blood-red shorts emblazoned with a collage of skulls. When he noticed the double-eight over the collage, Rodriguez complained to Target Inc. He was answered through a form letter explaining that all products can’t satisfy all customers. After raising the hackles of equality groups, Target
finally pulled the line and issued a statement apologizing for “any
discomfort.” A Target spokesperson said their designers were probably
unaware of the number’s significance. : |
