Boss,Boss! Ze plane!

Following the 48-hour marathon that was my Labour Day weekend, my serotonin-deprived brain begins to whirl at the sheer variety of events facing clubland in the week to come. Of course, this brain-whirling thing could also be a combination of the four hours of sleep I got following the weekend’s festivities and the consumption of something that was supposed to have been pure MDMA, smuggled over from the Love Parade, but in reality may have been a blend of DXM, speed and some sort of fish paralyzer, concocted in a bathtub in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. But like Nietzsche, and Conan, say, “Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” (or in my case, “...makes you roll up into the foetal position for five hours, convinced you’re channelling Herve Villechaize”). So let’s look on the bright side, namely this week’s upcoming events.

Originally constructed in 1922, Montreal’s Plaza Theatre is one of the few remaining examples of the glory days of classical cinema architecture. This week, the doors to this beautiful space (6505 St-Hubert, metro Beaubien) will once again open, with a week-long program of events including a couple that should be tempting for those of you searching to get your groove on.

Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., join the Vibesensor crew as they host Sub_System at the Plaza featuring le Menuisier, Scoy, a Maüs/Soundshaper showdown and visuals provided by les Passagers. Did I mention the fully legal bar till 2 a.m.? Call 705-5695 for details.

In remembrance of the 9-11 attacks, on Wednesday, Sept. 11, drop by the Plaza for the Peace Party (“A cross-cultural, cross-generational, cross-clique multimedia event”). The line-up includes performances by Josh Dolgin, Sam Shalabi, live drum & bass outfit Testpilot and DJ sets by Aquarius & Longstocking, Baby Dino and Cheeba Cheeba Kid. Add to that psychedelic visuals, live traditional instruments and a modern dance performance that will include trampolines and giant inflatable balloons, and it’s obvious that the Peace Party will be making some serious noise. Tix are $15 at the door, $11 in advance (available at Je l’ai and Psychonaut).

On the more avant-garde tip, join experimental artists Mylena Bergeron, Tim Hecker and Alexandre St-Onge as they perform at the first show in the second installment of the Volt-AA series of experimental music at O Patro Vys (356 Mt-Royal E., corner St-Denis), also Wednesday. This live electronic performance (featuring special international guest The Man Who Forgot) and deep-listening session will be centred around the theme of amnesia. Don’t forget, show starts at 8:30 p.m. sharp, $10. :
Blizzarts. This Monday. Early ’90s dance hits. Snap! Be there...
