The Casa crew pitches in for
Beyond shaking one’s fist at the sky in impotent rage, not much can be done for that stuff. Some of the residents’ possessions, however, are replaceable, and to that end, the Casa crew has devoted both of their spaces (Casa del Popolo and la Sala Rossa) tonight to scaring up some relief funds. Nutsak, who had already booked a gig at Casa, were gracious enough to make their show part of the benefit package. These scrotum totemizers, who’ve not played in some time, showcase the six-string lunacy of the always-inventive Chris Burns and the gleefully robust, hard-touch drum thunder of Howard Chakowizc. Sharing the Casa stage with them is 1-Speed Bike. Across the street at the larger Sala Rossa, a bigger spread unfolds. Slated to play are familiar Casa types Fly Pan Am, Hrsta, Hangedup and members of the aforementioned Ms. Rosen’s Jordi & Friends collective (what else are friends for?). And dig this—ex-Haligonian hip hopper Sixtoo will do up a DJ set, as will Ninja Tune’s Amon Tobin, offering a sneak preview of his October 12 gig at Club Soda. If you can’t make it down, you can still help out by dropping off clothes, non-perishable food, toys and household stuff at the Casa (4873 St-Laurent). : Nutsak and 1-Speed Bike at Casa del Popolo, $5, and Fly Pan Am, Hrsta, Hangedup, Jordi & Friends, Sixtoo and Amon Tobin at la Sala Rossa, $10 (price includes Casa show), both tonight, Thursday, Aug. 29, 9pm >> Music Listings |
