107, down by SCOTT C This Friday, August 9, Montreal MC Chilan aims to sweeten the pot a bit with the long awaited release of his album Baila Balam. Chilan has been bumpin’ around with the mic in his hand since he was but a yout’, and this Friday’s Mango Masivo record release party at la Sala Rossa will embody the four years that have gone into making this LP happen. You can check out the listening party, which gets underway at 9 p.m., accompanied by some chips ’n’ salsa, followed by the vinyl styling of DJ Fat Sak. Chilan will be taking the stage at midnight with the all-important “live renditions,” while badbwoy Krinjah takes it home from 1 a.m. on. Baldhead Slick rolls into town this weekend for a little one on one with our own MC Bless. I’m talking about Gangstarr’s Guru, who’ll be dropping knowledge on the masses at Aria on Saturday, August 10, along with DJs Redd Dredd, Kwite Sane and Blast. Bless, who recorded a track with Guru last year for his Baldhead Slick compilation, obviously impressed somebody. Word has it the two are set to collaborate again very soon. Congratulations and teary goodbyes go out to my man Paul 107 who recently took on the position of editor-in-chief for Pound Magazine out of Toronto. The mag is still getting its legs, but has a healthy future in store based solely on its point of view. Paul adds Pound to splitting his time between Montreal mainstays Under Pressure Magazine, Audio Research Records and Sekond Hand Projects, but now it’s all about rooftop parties, 9 to 5 grindin’ and Off the Record with Michael Landsberg, seen? Good luck in T.O. dickhead, and call the hotline if you need anything broken down. Anything! Slow Mondays at Blizzarts are gearing up for the granddaddy of modest ego-trips, with a night where local producers basically play their homemade concoctions for all in attendance. Sound selfish? Sound like something you’d like to be a part of? Chuck me an e-mail if you’ve got beats you think everybody should hear, beats only a mother could love, or beats that belong in jail. I’m sure they’ll put you on. Hold tight for a date. Don’t know what to say ... still no confirmation on the absolutely necessary ?uestlove date that we need in the city. The Roots big-man just released a compilation on BBE called Babies Havin’ Babies that reflects his talent for the selection of great tunes. Let’s hope he can reach soon. : Seven reasons I thought you’d laugh: if it ain’t broke…. >> Music Listings |
