| Lest we forget by RAF KATIGBAK This Saturday, August 10, is the long-awaited second installment
of the broken beat, bossa, funk, afro, and all around rockin’ dance
jam known as The Goods. Hosted by Scott C and Andy Williams, the event
will also feature two fifths of Toronto’s world renowned beat collective
Movement. Blending soul, jazz, funk, deep house and Latin grooves, the
Movement crew is pretty much responsible for flipping the script in Toronto’s
club scene, injecting it with a refreshing dose of deep, organic tunes.
Armed with some of the funkiest, rarest records you’ll ever hear,
DJs A Man Called Warwick and Jason Palma will give Montrealers a great
opportunity to dance to some extraordinary, timeless music in a club atmosphere,
so check it out! Anyone looking for more of the dancing-outdoors-and-raving-till-the-wee-hours-of-the-afternoon-to-the-relentless-beat-of-machine-music, has only to drive 35 minutes out to Ville de St-Pie for this year’s Arrival party. Frankie Bones, Thomas Krome, Mijk Van Dijk and Delta and a whole bunch of other DJs and live acts including a performance by Runner in the Jet (cryptically billed as “the best local electro band and the most uprising band/first appearance ever”). Call 851-0501 for details. This Sunday, August 11, Head and Hands hosts the 32nd annual Sunday in the Park festival from noon to 7 p.m. in NDG Park (corner Sherbrooke and Girouard). Aside from live acts like Ark of Infinity, Orgypop, and electronic pop newcomers Belly Rash, the afternoon will also feature “a dramatic skit, dancing, hip hop free-styling, and much more.” Burgeoning graf artists won’t want to miss the mural workshop featuring local graf star Omen and little kids will be lining up for a session with face-painting heavyweight Bubbles the Clown (there’s talk of the two artists going head to head in an artistic freejam showdown, but don’t quote me). With lots of activities for grown-ups and kids alike, it makes for a great Sunday afternoon, so don’t miss it! : So long Pride, thanks for the mammaries ... >> Music Listings |
