When fleeing the law, two things should be on every person’s checklist. First, have an escape route. Second, make sure your prosthetic leg is firmly attached. A 38-year-old Dayton, Ohio, man seems to have been ill-prepared on both points.
Police spotted Michael Ford driving his van through a suburban Dayton neighbourhood. It’s believed he and his two passengers intended to make off with some unguarded lawnmowers. When Ford noticed a police cruiser, he allegedly sped toward it, swerving at the last moment and driving off.

After a high-speed chase through the still Ohio dawn, Ford sideswiped a tree and came to a halt at the end of a cul-de-sac. With one side of the van blocked, Ford left his friends to their own devices and made a run for it. After a few steps, his prosthetic leg fell off, which, according to police, “decreased his mobility.” Ford was quickly apprehended and the three are currently awaiting charges. :
