Looks like bad bwoys are runnin’ tings this weekend up inside Aria. Along with the regulars Redd Dredd, Kwite Sane and Blast, you can also expect to find Joey Starr from NTM getting crazy in the urban room. I’m not sure if Starr is in town for other things, or if he’s here specifically for the Aria stage, but you can expect gutter fabulous from this superstar thug from France. Down the road on August 17, Aria welcomes the granddaddy of the ones and twos Grand Master Flash into the fold so he can do his thing (note to Aria management: please write into the artist contract that an extended old-school set is mandatory). That’s edutainment. Finally checked out the new track from DJ Suganeedlz featuring Poison Pen. She was at the vernissage for Flow’s exhibit Head First at Noize last Friday and invited me down to the car to hear the track on the boomin’ system. All I can say is this girl has a good ear, and y’all are gonna get brutalized from the neck on up when you hear this shit. Keep it comin’! If you haven’t already heard, Alicia Keys is playing at the Molson Centre on Monday, August 26, and I’m sure it won’t be cheap, but she plays her own instruments, and that’s got to be worth something, right? See her while she’s still a child, so you can say you saw her when she played her own instruments. Just got a call saying that Toronto’s Movement alumni Jason Palma and A Man Called Warwick will be in town on Saturday, August 10, for the next installment of the Goods at la Sala Rossa. More details to come. : Seven
