Due to a late, Saturday-night bender courtesy of DJ Sneak, followed by waaaay too much time cracked out in the sun, learning why my astrological sign sucks, and finally a 4:30 a.m. wake-up call on Monday by a mysterious black cat who thought it was a great idea to come through my bedroom window and spray my girlfriend and I with cat stench while we were sleeping, I will forgo the witty banter and jump straight into this weekends activities full of live acts, intimate house jams, and big-name DJs.

Most Mutek fans will recognize the name Deadbeat. An active player in the Montreal techno scene for many years, Deadbeat (aka Scott Montieth) has recently found much success with his dubbed-out 12” releases on Hautec, Revolver and Germany’s Background label. Tonight, Thursday, July 18, is a great chance to catch this minimal-tech-meister live on his laptop, at Blue Dog’s Tekstyle Thursdays. Two dollars at the door. Be there!

Anyone in the mood for a good ol’ fashioned intimate loft party should head to 1180 St-Antoine W., #211 this Friday, July 19. Refreshments will be served and music entertainment will be provided by Dr. Noh and drum & bass duo dB, who’ll be premiering some of the new material off their recently completed full-length. If you want to check out the future of live drum & bass, check these boys out (for a paltry two bucks).

Looking for an intimate party but feelin’ a little more on the deep house tip? Check out the weekly Bang the Party jams, happening every Saturday at 1333 Ste-Catherine E. Following a simply magical debut evening with special guest DJ Jepthé Guilliaume two weeks ago, this week, July 20, catch DJ76 and jojoflores as they bring this New-York-born house-music event to newer heights. This is quite possibly the hottest deep-house night around right now, folks, so if you’re feelin’ it, don’t miss it. Call 944-8636 for info.

On the more pumpin’ tip, house headz have already probably heard about the triple threat DJ spectacular happening at Stereo this weekend. If ya haven’t, this Friday, July 19, will mark the long-awaited return of Grammy-winning duo Deep Dish. Recently honoured as number-2 pick for “Best Dance/DJ Artist” by the world’s dance music authority Rolling Stone (!?), these guys have been rockin’ it globally since their Junk Science debut blew up headphones back in ’98.

On Saturday, July 20, Stereobar welcomes Mr. C back to Montreal. I probably don’t have to repeat the fact that this guy played a pivotal role in the U.K. dance music scene, so I won’t. Just know that he’s the shit and you should go. Later on, after hours, mosey on upstairs to catch NYC’s DJ Onionz on the decks, givin’ people a taste of his newest release nite: life 09, a double mix CD with Joeski on Nick Holder’s NRK label.

In honour of me again flaking out on the electro exposé until next week (ummm…), make sure to catch electro authority DJ Toulouse Letrauc at Casa del Popolo, July 22. :

The cat came back, the very next day…
