>> Eric Forrest of E-Force on life
after Voivod

Butt, too

by JOHNSON CUMMINS

To say that Eric Forrest has taken some hard knocks lately would be a gross understatement. A couple of years ago while Voivod were on the road, the band’s van turned over, leaving Forrest in a coma for eight days, hospitalized for five and a half months and permanently disabled. “I’m doing pretty good now and doing the best that I can,” says Forrest. “I have my lower back fused and I have hardware in my lower spine, but I’m very fortunate that I can still rock ’n’ roll and keep my girlfriend happy. My lesson that I’ve learned is to just seize the day, because life is precious. Let’s face it, nobody is getting out of this world alive, so you have to make the most out of it and live it to its fullest.”

After a slow, painful recovery, Forrest returned to Voivod for an opening slot for Iron Maiden. Shortly afterwards, though, Forrest and Voivod parted ways and original singer Snake was brought back into the fold. Despite all of the mudslinging in the press from both camps, Forrest has nothing but good things to say of his former band. “I went to see them with Motörhead and at first, I was really nervous, but when they started playing it really took me back to when I first saw Voivod. I am honoured and privileged to have been in that band, but it was great to see Snake being a real member of the band again. I was really happy for them.”

Chances are, if you liked Forrest’s work in Voivod, you’re going to be all over the Ministry, Slayer and of course Voivod influences present in his new band E-Force. With label interest already brewing, Forrest’s future is once again looking bright. “Voivod fans have been really supportive of what I am doing now and they’re definitely excited to check it out. I think the people that dug Voivod’s Negatron and Phobos records are really going to like E-Force. I’m just glad to be playing again.” :
