Filet of soul

Local artist Martine Chartrand’s award-winning animated short, Âme noire, which portrays a voyage through black history (accompanied by music from Montrealers Lilison T.S. Cordeiro and Oliver Jones), is on display in an unusual form for the next month-and-a-half. The exhibit features stills from the film, illuminated in light-box form, as well as the breathtaking movie itself, which plays continuously on a large screen. Chartrand will be on hand for Montreal Museums Day (Sunday, May 26, 9 a.m.–
5 p.m.), explaining her technique of painting on glass. Âme noire continues through July 14 at the Cinémathèque québécoise (335 de Maisonneuve E.). :
