Dancing from
the streets

Bodily transformations, plastic surgery, mutation and cloning are some of the themes choreographer/dancer Carole Courtois touches upon in her carnivalesque production Vacuum. Choreographed by Johanne Madore, the spectacle will take place in the Sala Rossa and cooks up an environment mixing street theatre, circus and dance. Courtois wanted to transport the show far away from the usual dance venues, so she chose this cozy space in the Centre Social Espagnol. It was important for her to recreate the feeling of watching a street show, so spectators are free to wander and follow the performance as it roams around the space.

Courtois, a former member of La La La Human Steps and O Vertigo, weaves a colourful, quirky world with the help of fellow dancers Peter James and Lucas Jolly. Plus, Courtois herself designed the crazy, tribal costumes. At 4848 St-Laurent, May 15–18, 22–25. Info: 844-2172. :
