Bard benefit

Michael York is 60! That’s right, the fine-boned British star of Cabaret and The Three Musketeers is now a mature Shakespearean actor. Actually, York has always done Shakespeare. His London stage debut was in ’65 in Franco Zeffirelli’s production of Much Ado About Nothing.

Anyway, he’s swinging through town this weekend for one performance only of his solo show Will and I, a combination of personal anecdotes and play excerpts: sort of a Bard’s Greatest Hits. The actor will also be signing copies of his book, Dispatches from Armageddon.

Class-act York is donating his time as a benefit for the beleaguered Repercussion Theatre, the Shakespeare-in-the-Park folks. Tickets are a hefty $100 because it’s a fundraiser. However, if you can convince them you’re an artist of any kind, you can get two for the price of one. Will and I, Saturday, May 4, 8 p.m. at Salles du Gesù. Info: 916-7275. :
