Angel >> SUV crackdown The reclassification of the gas-guzzling behemoths as cars rather than trucks—a move long overdue—will have a drastic effect on the reduction of smog, the federal Environment Minister said this week. The move comes as the feds announced a wider crackdown on other types of vehicles and engines as well. Environment Minister David Anderson said that as new fuel becomes available in about four years, the reclassification will reduce smog-causing emissions from SUVs by as much as 95 per cent.

Insect >> Support for French fascists with presidential aspirations Noted extreme right-winger Jean-Marie Le Pen, best known for his anti-immigrant platform and open bigotry, claims to have received enough signatures to endorse his candidature for the upcoming French presidential elections. While Le Pen’s star has faded recently due to infighting within his Front Nationale, he nevertheless received three over the minimum 500 signatures from elected officials to appear on the ballot. Le Pen had been loudly claiming to anyone who listened that a plot was afoot to keep him off the ballot. The first round of voting begins on April 21.
